I have been on a blogging blah of late. Obviously. So we'll skip over the why-nots and move onto the good stuff!
We just returned from a fabulous camping trip to Capitola. It was delightful. From start to finish. My husband kicked booty and got us all ready to rock and roll. We left town on time. On! Time! No fighting. No swear words uttered. It was amazing. This was even after a hellacious school board meeting that we had to attend the night before we left. All three + hours of it. Yet we still left town on time! Granted, we didn't get to bed until 2:00 am, and were back up at 6:30, but still . . . we did it. And it was so incredibly worth it!
Our sites were amazing. Right on the bluff at New Brighton State Park, with the ocean crashing just below us. There was a great white shark seen in the bay on the day that we arrived, so that was exciting. Or terrifying, depending on your perspective! We had a ridiculous amount of good food, yummy cocktails, delicious desserts . . . and yes, the focus is often on what we are eating and when! The kids all got along. Halle was in heaven . . . she had three older girls who completely doted on her as well as a few boys who put up with her shenanigans as well! Dylan had a blast boogie boarding and playing beach football. We had hilarious rounds of Giant Spoons. Tons of time just hanging out and talking with good friends. Both Dylan and John enjoyed their hammocks. We hit up the Boardwalk (fun!) and Pizza My Heart (delicious!). We battled the raccoons again, this time they stayed out of my car, but actually managed to get into our friends' tent trailer . . . while they were all in there sleeping! Creepy!
It was absolutely delightful! Five days with our peeps. Our village. We feel so very blessed by these dear friends. It's true community. And although it's a smaller group than we used to camp with? It is just more manageable. These coastal camping reservations are just too cut-throat to attemp with too many folks. We barely got these two sites with six people trying for them when they became available on January 2nd! And it was good. Oh, so, good. Can't wait to try and get reservations again for next year. You know what I'll be doing on January 2, 2013 at 8:00 am!
